Tell FDA to Ban Arsenic in Animal Feed!

chicken_farm(Updated June 16)

The chickens you buy at the grocery store are given feed with arsenic added to make them gain weight faster. Yes, arsenic—the deadly poison and carcinogen. A petition had been filed with the FDA to remove arsenic from animal feed and the FDA had until June 15th to respond.  ANH-USA forwarded the thousands of comments our readers submitted in support of the arsenic ban to the FDA. Thank you all for taking action!

Arsenic-containing compounds are most widely used in chicken production, and most chickens receive arsenic–“fortified” feed. Most arsenic-containing animal feed additives are not used to treat sickness. Instead, these additives are commonly used in poultry production to induce faster weight gain and give the meat a healthy-looking color; the same techniques are used to a lesser extent in turkeys and hogs.

Last December, the Center for Food Safety and the Institute for Agriculture and Trade Policy filed a petition with the Food and Drug Administration calling for the immediate withdrawal of approvals for arsenic-containing compounds used in animal feed. The petition was supported by a coalition of food and farm groups around the country.

Arsenic is powerful carcinogen. The government knows this; they state openly that “the International Agency for Research on Cancer (IARC) has determined that inorganic arsenic is carcinogenic to humans.” And it is now well known that these feed additives lead to arsenic residue both in conventionally raised chickens—that is, chickens sold in supermarkets and restaurants across the country—and in the environment, putting our health at risk.

Just two weeks ago in The Pulse of Natural Health, we discussed the safety of nutritional supplements, and how trace amounts of arsenic and lead get into herbal supplements because the metals occur naturally in air, water, soil, and food. How much more ironic is it that arsenic, in far greater amounts, is being added to our food, with no public outcry, no mention in the conventional media (compared to the dramatic headlines over the trace metals in supplements)—and worst of all, no action whatsoever from the FDA, our supposed “watchdog” agency!

In fact, it would be shocking if the FDA did take any positive action—its pattern is to support big business and the pharmaceutical industry in particular no matter the cost to public health.

Case in point: In 2008, the FDA issued a rule that banned the widespread use of a class of powerful antibiotics—specifically, cephalosporin antimicrobial drugs—in food-producing animals. In July of last year, they even called the practice “a public health risk.” Then, last December, they reversed their decision, bowing to pressure from agriculture groups and pharmaceutical makers, who claimed that the antibiotics are needed to prevent many infectious diseases in animals.

“Needed”? On the contrary: public health officials and the American Medical Association are worried that excessive use of antibiotics—including in animals—can promote resistance and produce strains of bacteria that threaten human life. And even the FDA’s director of veterinary drugs, Steven Vaughn, told a conference that that antibiotic-resistant bacteria are becoming more common in cattle.

But back to arsenic. For many years, pressure-treated lumber was coated with a preservative that contained arsenic to keep it from rotting. It was used for foundations and decks and playground equipment, wherever wood is exposed to earth and weather. But the wood treatment industry and the Environmental Protection Agency finally reached the commonsense conclusion that the best way to protect kids from arsenic wood was not to affix a “Poison!” label to it, but to eliminate it altogether, and in 2004 the substance was banned. In many cases, kids’ playgrounds had to be replaced, and many public decking areas had to be rebuilt. So the government thinks it’s too dangerous for kids to play around arsenic-treated wood, but the FDA says it’s OK to put it in feed—that is, directly into our own food supply? How does that make any sense?

It is true that the EPA and the FDA often disagree. For example, the EPA says that five micrograms per liter of blood in a 132-pound woman is the maximum amount of mercury she can have in her system and still be considered healthy and nontoxic. The FDA has not issued any advisory on maximum mercury levels, and seems entirely unconcerned about the mercury that children (and adults, including pregnant women) get in their flu shot. Mercury, of course, is one of the most toxic-heavy metals and causes fainting spells, nausea, intermittent stomach upset, headaches, fatigue, abnormal hair loss, and trouble concentrating, among other damage.

Please ban arsenice from the food of the animals we eat…

  • Margaret Thurston

Stop using arsnic in amimal foods.

  • Mike Scott

FDA — PLEASE do your job and protect We the People, not serve agribiz.

  • Robin Rhyand

I cannot believe they put arsenic in animal feed.

  • Barbara Douglas

Should it have ever gotten this far? It’s sickening how farm animals are treated.

  • Jim Gerlach

Arsenic was the favorite toxin of GW Bush as he worked hard to keep it in our water supply. How about a bit of human decency and ban toxins in our food supply.

  • I am horrified to learn of arsenic in our food supply! It takes no imagination to realize the risk we take, since we are the top of the food chain and concentrate whatever is in what we eat.

Make arsenic, and for that matter, other harmful additives, illegal in feed for food animals; and then enforce that action vigorously.

We rely on you to ensure our food is safe, and you have a long way to go to deserve that trust!

  • Faye Dudas

This is outrageous! Please stop this immediately!

  • How could you ever justify such a practice?!!!! Time for the government to start building trust. The American people are not ignorant and also have a very powerful voice via the internet and online communities. Come on!

  • Arsenic is POISON. Please do not put it in the chickens’ feed which will eventually be
    eaten by humans.

  • Martha Fitzgerald

I just learned about the use of arsenic to “fortify” chicken feed. I don’t want the chicken meat I eat to be fortified with arsenic unless you can convince me that I need more arsenic.

  • Maybe we could save lives and money if we stop poisoning people with all the food aditives. Arsenic is not beneficial to any life, it is a killer. Pleasse remove it from the feed for our animals.

  • You have your nose into so many areas that are unnecessary! This IS important – say NO to arsenic in chicken feed and ALL animal FEED! Thank you

  • Aurelie

It is utterly ridiculous to put anything toxic in animals or water. Please fire everyone who doesn’t have enough sense to know that.

  • Gordon Allgrove

Instead of using poisons to fatten your chickens & wallets, We need healthy food to eat

  • What in the world are these people thinking of by putting poison in our food supply. Have they become so greedy to even stoop this low. The big food industry has got to be stopped in doing whatever they wish to do in the name of money. It’s time that our politicians put a stop to all of
this. Remember guys you live on the same planet as we do. So that means you are eating the same garbage we are. Time to do your job and start putting the food industry under more control and to stop killling all of us out here.

  • Dr Ed Feraco

    Protect dogs!

  • Kathy Cropp

If the animals are eating it, so are we…including all of your family and friends!! Please let the animals eat natural, wholesome food.

  • Suzanne Livingston

THAT IS DISGUSTING…THAT IS THE FDA!!!!!!!!!!!

A public comment period on the petition before the FDA is now open—but it ends tomorrow, June 16. As part of the public, I request that you do everything possible to stop poisoning the food that we eat. I personally, knowing of arsenic additives, have stopped eating poultry and meat. I may start again, if I am sure that they are safe.

  • Teresa J. Larkin

It should be a no brainer that feeding arsenic to animals for human consumption is very dangerous to the consumer as well to the animal. FDA stands for forcing death and ill health on Americans. How do they sleep at night.

  • Kate McWiggins

It doesn’t seem as if one should have to write about or there need be discussion about arsenic-containing substances in animal feed. Arsenic is toxic and is cumulative in the body. Remember what happened to Napoleon, it wasn’t one dose but built up over time. Just ban it – the quality of food produced in this country is abysmal.

  • BARBARA BOJANOWSKI

THIS IS HORRIBLE. YOU ARE SUPPOSED TO LOOK OUT FOR THE PUBLIC, NOT TRY TO POISON THEM. DO NOT PERMIT THIS TO HAPPEN.

  • Doc

Why would you allow arsenic in any food in any amount? Is it part of your job to protect the American people? Why would any carcinogen be allowed in our food? Do you want to kill us?

  • Arthur Summers

Arsnic has no business in any food !!!

  • PATTI CONSTANTINO-MARTIN

Are you kidding? Arsenic so that it can be passed off the animals? Seriously? Like anyone should have to petition this.

please ban arsenic in all animal feed. i have had high arsenic levels and this is a serious problem.

    thanks so much,

  • MICHAEL R VAUGHAN

IF I WANT ARSENIC I WILL IT EAT MYSELF. KEEP IT OUT OF MY FOOD CHAIN

  • Ann G. Tomasello

Do not allow anyone to use arsenic in animal food, it is a deadly poison and we have enough of that in this country. Let the FDA do something useful.

  • Martha Abell

I find it hard to believe that arsenic was allowed to be included in any form of animal feed. What was someone thinking? Somewhere along the line, good sense got lost in bureaucracy. Somebody, wake up!

  • Jennifer Shafii

Please ban Arsenic in animal feed. It is toxic to people and animals. We need to keep our people healthy.

  • Hillary bryan

Please ban arsenic in any food, pesticide, toothpaste, shampoo, and anywhere else it may get slipped into, which cause harmful and adverse side effects on all animals (humans included).

  • Richard Snook

Cheap weight gain is one thing – but, weight gain through arsenic!!!!!!! There has got to be a cheap & healthier way to encourage food animals to gain weight. AND – maybe the grocery stores should consider selling chickens by the price per piece, instead of by the pound. The prime motivation should be to sell HEALTHY food – NOT just how much money they are going to make. Well, until our society gets geed out of the equation, at least, get the arsenic out of our livestock!

  • J Bouyear

Arsenic should not be fed to the chickens for any reason. If you have any decency at all, you must vote against this. Our pets do not need this is their diet. What kind of representatives could ever go along with this? There will be alot of representatives in both the House and the Senate removed this November if this “looking the other way behavior” to get what you want no matter who it hurts. It’s time to use common sense and the brain God gave you along with a heart.

  • Jay Wells

Another highly unnatural substance added to animal feed is urea. This is mainly used as fertilizer (sometimes bombs). I know this because I’ve hauled truck loads of it to cattle feed lots and to chicken feed mills. I’m not sure what human health hazards this poses, but would bet my hat it can’t be good. All unnatural additives in animal feeds whose purpose is quick weight gain–consequences be damned, should be banned!

  • Tom Fewins

    ban arsenic in animal feed!

  • Amy Schumaker

Ban arsenic in animal feed. How could you ever justify such a practice?!!!! Time for the government to start building trust. The American people are not ignorant and also have a very powerful voice via the internet and online communities. Come on!

  • Robyn Sharpe

This is unthinkable that is is even ALLOWED in ANY living beings food let alone food I consume. Get arsenic out of animal feed.

  • Arsenic is only slightly more toxic than fluoride. Perhaps we should also look into removing fluoride (a toxic industrial waste) from our drinking water.

  • Thomas Skours

Eliminate arsenic from any anmial feed and agriculutural products.

  • In the name of common sense and concern for your man; please stop putting Arsenic, in animals
that the people, must consume. Why would you poison the animals, and intern, poison us ?

  • LISA

    DONT YOU DARE POISON US.

  • James R. Miles

Stop putting poison in chicken feed that also effects humans!

  • Thomas Skouros

Eliminate arsenic from animal feed and agricultural products.

  • Ralph A. Paulsen

Just how crazy will agribiz be allowed to get in the name of profits, please put a stop to this deadly practice

Re: Banning Arsenic in Animal Feed

To allow arsenic, a known carcinogen, to our food supply is unconscionable and should not be allowed. Arsenic-containing compounds must be removed from chicken feed and any other uses in the production of chickens for public consumption. No amount of added arsenic – for whatever reason – should be considered “safe”.

Please register my comment as a vote against allowing arsenic in animal feed. Your prompt attention in this matter will be greatly appreciated.

How freakin’ stupid is this! Dear Zeus!

  • Animals need food that does NOT contain arsenic.

  • sophie barnes

I emplore you not tie dollars and non- sense together in a lethal combination, with the approvals of toxins into the natural commons. Our bodies already have a ten to one ration of toxins to organic matter as it is, thanks to the ignorance of the biological imperatives of life systems. We continue to try to retrofit a compromised eco system, planetary as well as individual, at our peril.

  • Jean FAIRMAN, MSW, LICSW,BCD

,Please BAN ARSENIC from the food of any domestic animals, just as you would– I trust–from the diets of your children and all the other citizens of this land. To allow hat is to become complicit n the poisoning of our families and population. I cannot imagine that you allow yourselves to be bought out by such nefarious commercial interests, and in violation of your charge (or perhaps it isn’t) to protect the health and well–being of our citizens! Get the arsenic and other known toxins OUT of our food!

  • Sandra Pieper

Why are you letting big corporations ruin the health of the American People and animals?

Wake up before it’s too late. How far is the corporate greed going to be allowed to get away with this crap?

    Stop this crime against humanity.

  • Judy Krach

We do not need arsenic or mercury in anything eatible by humans or animals which we eat.
The FDA is suppose to be someone we can trust, you are suppose to be checking on things that will make people sick, including cancer causing additives.
They don’t mind getting their paychecks and getting the govenment raises, that Congress approves of at the taxpayers expense. So, they should be able to earn the money and respect of the taxpayers.

  • Kimberly Wyke

    Arsenic in Chicken Feed!

How many more crazy practices have you FDA Folks OK’D?

  • Diane Knight

This is insane! Arsnick causes cancer and you are allowing animals we eat to injest this substance! I believe that the powers that be are trying to lawer the average age of the populace.

  • Kathleen Mahoney

You are the Food and Drug Administration tasked with protecting American citizens from harmful foods, right? So please protect us! It seems so odd that you have panels to tell you to what degree we are allowed to be poisoned. How about removing the poisons from my food so we don’t have to be concerned?

  • the FDA says it’s OK to put it in feed—that is, directly into our own food supply I do not agree it is a dangerous thing!!!!

  • Vince

There is a problem with the share application. Specifically the email link. It’s constantly loading, never loads. Facebook is fine, I have no problem reposting. I like to send emails to my senators and congressman to educate them.

  • Beverlee Patterson

The FDA is owned by the chemical and drug companies. They no longer care if anything is good for the people as long as they get their cut from the big boys.

  • Mary Ann Koch

What is the FDA doing? They are acting as if they just found out that mercury and arsenic are not only poison but accumulate in animals and are passed on when we consume them. This should have been cracked down on 30 years ago. Why are the FDA agents getting a pay check when there are lots of people that could do a better job protecting us that are unemployed. And why has it been getting worse and worse for 30 years? I am out-raged that the FDA continues to allow mercury to be put into your fillings so they can leach out over your lifetime and poison you, and that mercury is put into vaccines and injected into our children and adults and yet there is no good reason for it to be in the teeth or vaccines. Some one needs to answer for these decisions. They are ignorant at best and genicidal at worst. Either way some heads need to roll.

  • Kathleen Mahoney

You are the Food and Drug Administration

  • Ginnie

My toddler had elevated arsenic blood levels and suffered the neurological consequences. This is ridiculously unnecessary!

  • sue davies

    No arsenic in animal food!!

  • Jana Thompson

I didn”t know that the chicken I purchase at the grocery store is poisoned with arsenic. If it isn’t removed, I will have to buy only organic chicken. And, I shall spread the word.

Shame on the chicken farms and the corporate boses who value profit at the expense of the health of the nation.

  • Lisa Clark

I am appalled to learn that this poisonous substance is part of the food chain. Get arsenic OUT of animal feed!

  • Diane Piazza

Please require the removal of arsenic in animal feed immediately. (and in all food, health and beauty products!)

    thank you,
    Diane

  • Carol Early

Just say “No!” No intelligent person would add arsenic to chicken feed, knowing they were going to have to eat the chickens later. I am a cancer survivor and I would like to stay that way!

    • Carol Early

No intelligent person would add arsenic to chicken feed, knowing they were going to have to eat the chicken later. I am a cancer survivor and I would like to stay that way. Please ban arsenic from chicken feed.

  • Jana Lane

animals grown for human consumption should be fed natural foods and not chemicals or medications. There is never any reason to do that.

  • Susie Gellert

Please protect the public from the arsenic in chicken. Too many toxins in our environment are causing great problems in the health of all our citizens. There is no need to have this added toxin in our food.

  • Jim Massey ND

I can believe the FDA allows arsenic in animal feed as they allowed mercury in vaccines and still permit mercury in amalgams. The FDA has shown the American public time and again that it stands for pharmaceutical interests over the public interests. It’s profits over people and allowing arsenic in chicken feeds adds weight to chickens making more money for the big three corporate chicken producers. Way to go FDA…I can’t understand why we are the richest country in the world and the 57th healthiest. And why is it Monsanto has a free rein in not even having to reveal and label GMO foods while Europe bans these same foods? Corporate interests (profits) over the American health interests. People obviously don’t know what their eating, nor are they honestly educated about the sources and content of the food available. The FDA continues not to do the job it was enacted to perform: protect the American public. How shameful.

  • David Wenner

No arsenic in the chicken please.

  • Susanne McConville

No more arsnic in animal feed!

  • To have arsenic given to poultry to make them grow fat is absolutely evil. Arsenic is a carcinogen and should never be ingested. It is a killer. The huge poultry farms are a disgrace in many ways and to add arsenic to all the poultry we eat is a danger to everyone who purchases poultry thinking it is healthful food. Please see to it that this practice is banned. .

    • Do not continue to use arsenic in poultry food. It is a carcinogen and thus a danger to whomever eats the poultry from the factory farms.

  • No more arsenic in our food supply!!!

  • Laura

    “COMPASSION!!”

  • andrew sessa

    Ban Arsenic in Animal Feed

  • Joris Hines

Arsenic in pet foods? You damn well better stop! Someone should put it in your food, you bastards!

  • No arsenic please!

  • Mara Williams

Stop putting poison in food sources!

  • sandra mason

don’t animals suffer enough abuse without now being poisoned?

  • Mara Williams

Arsenic is poison and does not need to be in our food supply. It certainly does animals no good either.

  • Please stop poisoning our food. Let’s get back to organic & 100% natural like the old days! Thanks

  • marian davis

    Isn’t this kind of archaic?

  • Charles Seip

How does this make any sense?

  • chris

please protect the american population from poisons. Specifically arsenic in chicken feed to help them gain weight. even in this arguably small amount, it should not be in our food chain – there are enough naturally occurring ways we get it and do not need bigger chickens at this risk. STOP PUTTING ARSENIC IN OUR FOOD

  • Susan McCandless

Pleasae ban arsenic in animal feed

  • Luann P. Stubbs

Arsenic is fed to animals as a supplement? You’ve got to be kidding! What greedy idiot came up with that idea and why has the FDA allowed it?!

Get the arsenic out of my food, the mercury out of my vaccines, and the FDA off their butts!

    Thanks for listening,
a concerned citizen and chemically sensitive, frustrated voter

  • Billie Watkins

Why would anyone be allowed to add arsenic to animal (chicken) feed? It isn’t good for the animal, accumulates in their tissues and then is sold to feed our families.

This should not even be an issue, but obviously concern for people and the integrity of the product are not as important as making an extra dollar.

    Sincerely,
    Billie Watkins

  • Victoria Brandon

Arsenic needs to go. Please step up and do your part. Make it right. Thank you.

  • Gretchen Haire

I think all chemicals should be banned!! You would think that the United States of all countries wouldn’t let chemicals companies make the decisions on what is fed to the livestock we consume. No wonder why America is so sick. It’s keeping the pharmaceutical companies rich. It doesn’t take a rocket scientist to make the right decisions, just a little common sense!! SAY NO TO GMOS!!!!!! Support Organic farmers:)

  • Dr. Joel A. Fenske

Please take time to review research and professional, scientific research on the topic of arsenic as part of any mammalian food chain; then take the proper action to stop this practice. Many wonder why there is more and more disease in our country (and world) when we have the most extensive medicinal model: practices such as adding arsenic to the food chain are precisely why we don’t experience a higher level of true health! Help ALL of us by becoming more informed.

    Thank you.

    Dr. Joel A. Fenske

  • C & W Rohrdanz

Please ban arsenic from use in all animal feed, in this case chicken. Also, it would be a great idea to remove all unwholesome additives to all animal feed.

  • Jean Lewandowski

Over time, regulatory agencies have become confused with corporate boosters. I want the FDA to resume its rightful role. Its role is not to promote or support the industries, but to ensure that the products the public consumes are safe to consume. As a special education teacher, I am very concerned that substances introduced into products to enhance profits for producers are contributing to burgeoning incidence of neurological disorders, including various forms of learning disabilities. The issue of arsenic is beyond speculation, though; we know it is toxic to humans, and that being true, it is the FDA’s responsibility to protect the public and let the private sector develop safer methods of enhancing its bottom line.

  • Barbara Kantola

There is no reason to put poison in the feed that is fed to animals at all, much less the ones we eat. Please put a ban on that practice. We are being poisoned by so many of our food products already, and we wonder why we have so many sick people and such high medical bills and unhealthy people. Please take better care of us than that. We have the right to expect that from our government.

  • Janet Robinson

I had no idea that arsenic was being used in food fed to chickens which we in turn eat. Sounds like a dangerous idea and it should be stopped immediately.

  • ZoAnn

Get real folks. Why would anyone with any brains want to add a poison to the animals food ???

  • Without a doubt arsenic should not be included in the food of any animal. Are the proponents nuts?

Years ago I read where in a central European country it was customary for people to ingest small amounts of arsenic on a regular basis. Just why, I don’t recall. However they were able to keep on living for years. Eventually time took its toll. I had not known that manufacturers of animal foods decided to go out on limbs to hurry up the growth process of livestock, chickens, in particular by lacing food with arsenic as well as anti-biotics.. This is reprehensible, and should be stopped.

It is also time for the restaurants of any and all stripes to quit serving heaping servings to grossly sized human hogs. Heed the admonitions of health care people predicting straoispheric health care costs in the not too far future. Mega portions of food, and forcing people to eat arsenic ladened foods fed to
chickens should classify the the poultry feed manufacturers all as murderers. Murder by slow death is as abhorrent as a quick shot, or a stabbing.

    Dana Allison

  • patrick

This seems like bad news to me. Our animals don’t need to systematically get sicker.

  • Rebecca A Lang

I am one more person who wants the FDA to stop allowing the arsenic to be put into animal feed.

    Rebecca Lang

  • John DeMartini

The FDA needs to remember that they work for the American people and not corporate executives. They should make sure we are getting man made products that are as safe as possible and quit worrying about cherries, walnuts and unpastuerized milk. These are natural products that have been used for thousands of years without side effects. I don’t believe man is capable of improving on them, so lets quit wasting taxpayer money on nature and worry about the dangerous products we are using – pharmaceuticals and other chemicals. If the problem is incredible incompetence then lets get a few competent people into government. If that isn’t the problem then we need to stop the kick backs and other perks our “public servants” are enjoying coutesy of food and drug companies.

  • Josephine Martinek

Arsenic in chicken feed–ban the use of it immediately! I am appalled to read that the practice of putting arsenic in chicken feed exists.

  • BAN ARSENIC IN ANIMAL FEED! It’s a carcinogen, but you already know that. You should also know that these feed additives not only lead to arsenic poisoning in chickens, but in the environment, as well. Hello! Is anyone there awake?

  • gigi gaulin, dvm

STOP poisoning the animals as well as the humans!

  • Leslie Kessler

Our rules for acceptable substances is despicable.

  • Nikki Holder-Seghi

It is foolish and wrong to allow arsenic added to animal feed. I personally have had the experience of a high level of arsenic when tested for toxic metals, and the only thing I can attribute it to is having consumed alot of chicken over the years. Please take heed and correct this. Thanks

  • Stop messing with our food!!!

  • Helen Gex Greer

Please, don’t poison the food people eat. People shouldn’t risk cancer because the Chicken Industry uses arsenic to get their birds bigger. Would you feed your children that?

  • Geoffrey Hybel

I like my chicken and most of my foods and meats free of fillers, chemicals, antibiotics, steroids, etc… It wasn’t in foods 50 years ago and doesn’t need to be in there now. Just creates new health problems.

  • STOP PUTTING DEADLY CHEMICALS IN THE ANIMALS THAT FEED US AND OUR PETS.

    SHAME ON YOU!!!!

  • Elissa Mericle-Gray

You must be kidding, this seems like a no-brainer, arsenic in animal feed. What planet are you from anyway? Get the stick out of you know where and take care of this situation permanently!

  • Sheryl Peters

As you well know, arsenic is a carcinogen, and it is ridiculous to feel it is permissible to feed animals which will be consumed by people such a dangerous substance. Also, what is it doing to the chickens? Sounds like animal abuse.

  • James Roach

As a physician, it has come as a shock that three of my patients have had arsenic toxicity in the last six weeks!! Every patient that I have tested has at least some arsenic in their system. The toxic patients have had symptoms they couldn’t explain – malaise, brain fog, marked fatigue. We must stop poisoning Americans with arsenic!

  • Linda Marschall

Please no arsenic in chicken feed. We are being bombarded by pollutents.

  • Linda Spors

The fact that animals are being fed arsenic is outrageous. 1. it isn’t necessary (except for greed)
    2. arsenic is a poison. 3. Ever hear of the food chain? We are consuming it and our children are consuming it. 4. Do we know enough to say that it doesn’t a) build up in the body b) excreted into the environment to eventually be consumed again, by fish which bring it right back to the food chain. THIS IS INSANITY. STOP PUTTING POISON INTO OUR FOOD!!

  • Linda Marschall

    Please no arsenic.

  • Susan Mullins

I am appalled at the latest outrage of putting arsenic into chickens! Faster weight gain and a certain “look” are not reasons to do this in a society riddled by cancer; my family included. I WILL BE CERTAIN NOT TO EAT ANY CHICKEN UNTIL I HAVE HEARD OF A WITHDRAWING OF SUCH AN INSANE POLICY!!! PLEASE BAN THIS PRACTICE IMMEDIATELY!!!!!!!!!

    • Susan Mullins

  • David Young

Arsenic is not needed. It should not be in food.

  • Joyce Duarte

Just use common sense. It’s not that difficult!

  • The FDA has done enough harm to humans why must they do harm to innocent animals as well> I will tell you why, because they are the FDA, we are sick and tired of you killing all of us off by allowing poisons to be administered to humans and animals for the sake of the big pharmas and the farmers of america. The FDA would rather allow a poison to be given to a person but not a natural remedy that has the ability to cure without harm. Its all about money from the smallest of children to the elderly and now all the animals that you feed us to kill us off including poisoning the animals as well.
I would like to see the FDA live off of arsenic as a daily diet. At least then we would be poisoning the guilty ones and not the innocent ones in this country. Im sick of the FDA, the doctors that are held to give out these medicines and the farmers that kill by the hand of the FDA and all of the pharmacopias in America. God Bless NATURAL MEDICINE. Some day all of us will come to understand the dirty dealing of the FDA. You make our country dirty.

  • Stop killing the animals. Take the poison yourself FDA then let us know how it feels to be killed off slowly.

  • Robert Black, O.D.

It is totally inconceivable to me that the FDA is not diligent enough to stop the toxic mercury from being placed in flu shots but astounding as that may be to actually allow arsenic to be placed in our food supply chain is beyond belief. What is the matter with this agency???

  • Karen Fussy

Do the right thing. Letting poisons in our food unknowingly, is a crime your govt agency is supposed to protect us from.

  • GILBERT BUCCOLA

ARSENIC IS A POISON. GET IT OUT OF OUR FOOD.

  • Carolyn Thompson

Please enact changes that would prohibit the very hazardous and unnecessary practice of putting poisonous arsenic in animal feed.

Please — no arsenic added to the food I am going to feed my children!

Thank you for your wise decision.

    Carolyn Thompson

  • Linda del Castillo

Duely noted regarding chicken feed: There are also two types of chicken feed readily available…One of these causes the hens to become infertile. When these chickens are used for dog food, it also makes the dogs stop coming into heat regularly. Any new information on THAT? Thank you

  • John Kingsley

FDA, what the hell are you thinking? Do the job that you were given, to PROTECT US. Doing what’s right is what’s right

  • Hard to believe these devils are doing this. It seems like this country is out of control and rapidly going to hell in a hand basket. For God’s sakes in the name of decency stop these monsters from feeding arsenic to the poor things!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!! The FDA is a damned joke, apparently!

  • Please ban arsenic in animal feed. Please ban any and all toxic additives in food production!! It is shockingly absurd that these practices exist at all. Feed animals real food and people will only ingest real food, not toxins and poisons. What is wrong with our system when we have to request over and over that these practices be stopped.

  • Anne Minieri

    No arsenic in chicken feed!!!!

  • S Emery

Just another person adding their name to the list in favor of banning arsenic in animal feed. Isn’t it common knowledge that that stuff is poisonous and cancer-causing?

  • Bonnie Grossman

Food should not be poison for humans or animals!

  • Terry

Please use my response as a vote to have Arsenic use in Chiken feeds banned

  • Iris Block

Our children have the right to untainted foods. Please stop this madness!

  • Val Brumby

There is no good reason to put mercury in any product made for consumption by man or animal. Please regulate mercury in all products made for all living things. It is a highly toxic and dangerous substance .

  • marcie malek

Ban arsenic and antibiotics in animal feed!

  • Richard Greco

This is simply uncalled for. By the food-chain effect, that arsenic is going to wind up in us and that should never be. I am tired of the food supply industry using poisons such as arsenic and antibiotics in the feed for animals, not for health purposes but to increase the profit made by the producers.

  • DON RAHM

Allowing a poison such as Arsenic to come in contact with the food supply in any manner is criminal.

  • Absolutely NO arsenic in animal food . . . NOT for ANY reason!

    Thank you!

No arsenic or arsenic-containing compounds in anything in our food chain – PLEASE!!!!

  • A. Smith

Please remove arsenic from animal feed. I have twice had high levels of arsenic and the only source that could be pinpointed was chicken. I have since switched to organic free-range chicken but find it difficult to enjoy meals out.

  • Sharon Baldwin

Unbelievable!!! We are poisoning ourselves?! Is that stupid or what?

Please ban ALL poisons in our food!!

  • Carolyn S. Akins

The practice of adding Arsenic to poultry feed for any reason is totally unacceptable! This government is completely out of order as far as being a watchdog for health benefits, their way is Lost!

  • Daniel Seitz

Animal food should not contain poisons of any sort. Period. They should also not contain medications, such as antibiotics. For human health, animals need to be treated humanely and in accordance with nature. It’s simple and it’s common sense. Do the right thing. Thank you.

  • Please! Ban arsenic in ALL animal feed! This is so wrong for so many reasons. Put an end to this!
    Thank you!

  • Barbara Bradshaw

Please remove arsenic from the feed of all animals. Why is this permitted, when people eat the animals, and therefore the arsenic also? Is there no common sense in this world? Please stop this immediately. Thank you

  • Eugene Saxby

We all need to get Obama to throw those bums out of the FDA. It’s just a rotation from working for a
drug company and then for the FDA. It makes it very easy for the drug companies to get their way
by continuation of this revolving door.

  • Connie Reich

We need more oversight and regulations regarding what goes into the food supply. Arsenic is a poison. Come one!! Use some common sense.

  • Jordan Sparks

It is totally inconceivable the FDA would allow this.

  • Ted Bahn

As a person who has struggled with recovery from mercury poisoning, I am appalled at the use of arsenic in feed for animals. We are what we eat and the things that we eat must be free of harmful compounds. Let’s catch up with the Europeans who have banned these substances from the food chain.

  • Country Maron

Please ban arsenic in animal feed.

  • Kim Sterling

I am (again) disappointed with the FDA. How dare you endanger people’s lives by allowing the addition of arsinic to the feed of animals that are consumed by humans? This poison needs to be removed from our food supply. Do the right thing for once and ban this from feed.

    Thank you.

  • Stephanie Dallam

Please ban mercury, arsenic and other poisons placed in animal feed

  • Kathy Harter

Unbelievable that this would be allowed –shame on you FDA for allowing this to occur!

  • Michaela A. Denny

It is unconscionable that known poisons and carcinogens could be legally injected or otherwise included in the foods we eat. It is also appalling that animals should be made to suffer with these same poisons in their systems. I eat a lot of chicken. I have just had a serious diagnosis. I wonder how much of that condition is due to the poisons and carcinogens in the chicken I have eaten because it’s a “safer” than beef for my health.

FDA, no poisons, drugs, metals, or other foreign substances in any of our foodstuffs, PLEASE!

  • Dan Crofts

Respect and cherish all living things.

  • Hildy Lyn Roy

I think it is totally outrageous to put ANY toxic ingredient into the food and or water supplies. To feed arsenic to chickens in order to fatten them up ?????!!!!!!!! is monstrous. That DOES go into our body and IS poisonous. I have an idea……how about we feed the arsenic into the food directly of these dangerous people who are behind this. come to think about it….have they stopped to realize (DUH !!) that they ARE eating that meat and so are their children and grandchildren. But then some people are so stupid and greedy…..what more can I say other than STOP IT !!!!!!

  • Helen Cooperrider

Please take actions to protect humans. Aren’t we important ? Or do we have to grow our food, raise our own food and not trust anyone or anything.

  • liora davis

Arsenic is not a food and should not be fed to any animal or human. Please do the right thing and ban the use of arsenic in animal feed.

  • To allow the FDA to allow chicken farmers put poison in animal feed is against what FDA was created for. The FDA is supposed to protect the public. Instead they are protecting chicken raisers and not protecting the public.
I wonder if the members of the FDA can be brought to court for violating what Congress told them to do

  • Dave Luckens

I have refused to eat commercially produced chicken for over two years now due to arsenic. Please stop this ridiculous practice.

  • M.K. Dalton

Please ban arsenic from feed of any kind. The effect of all these things that are being added to our foods is showing up in thousands of sick people everywhere! The ground that feeds us is being poisoned, the air we must breath is killing us, the water we must have to live is so bad even the fish are dying from it. Is there no way to save us? Will you take a stand now and help clean up the food industry? Or, like always take the kick back and let the American public pay the price for your sins. I am ashamed of you all. K. Dalton

  • Nancy Vedovi

I would ask the FDA to immediately stop the use of arsenic in the food of animals.

  • susan rudnicki

This is scientifically irresponsible to continue putting arsnic in animal feed. The corporate entities who want to protect this have nothing but profit as a goal.

  • shelly tracy

    Please don’t poison us….

  • Sharon Finnegan Terleski

Are you kidding me?!? The fact that we even have to demand an end to arsenic use in chicken feed is so ludicrous, I find myself wondering if someone isn’t pulling my leg. Arsenic? Really? I am a political and environmental activist and will call for a boycott of chicken in all my Facebook groups if arsenic is not *immediately* removed from chicken feed.

  • Pamela Swanson

Please vote to remove arseniic from animal feed; this unnecessary additive ( a known carcinogen) endangers human health.

  • Lisa Williamson

Please ban arsenic in animal feed.

  • Annette McInnes

We are appalled to think that Arsenic is still being used in animal food, when it is known to be carcinogenic. This is an urgent issue which must be addressed by the FDA immediately. How can it be that agricultural groups are being appeased at the expense of the health of Americans!

It seems that organically grown meat is the only option.

    Annette McInnes

  • Rhonda

Please help make our food supply safe. Remove all chemicals, poisons, etc from our food supply….We need and deserve healthy food!!

  • Martha Thompson

Arsenic is poisonous and can cause cancer which can cause cancer in humans which may be eating food from the animals given food with arsenic.

    Martha Thompson

  • Peggy Walton

It is horrific that we are having to request that arsenic not be allowed in animal feed, especially for animals that end up in our food supply! People!!! Think about what you are doing!!!

  • Joanie Bigham

    STOP this horrific abuse NOW!!!

  • Rick

Let’s makes sure we get the poisons out of our food and environment. It’s shameful how technology is literally killing ourselves and the environment, because of the pursuit of overproduction at the lowest possible cost!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!

  • Martha Thompson

I don’t want arsenic added to animal feed. It is can cause cancer which in turn passes on to humans when they consume the food from animals sch ads chicken.
    Martha Thompson

  • Judith Gibson

Are the people who are employed by the FDA completely insane? They worry about whole organic foods being toxic, and yet, think nothing of alllowing arsenic to be added to animal feed and ultimately to our food supply!

I can’t help but wonder if the members of the FDA actually eat all the contaminated foods and take all the poisonous vaccines with mercury in them. And I wonder if they allow their children and other family members to be used as guinea pigs. Or do they have an organic source for their food.

PLEASE BAN ARSENIC IN ANIMAL FEED!

It doesn’t take a genius to figure out that the FDA is catering to Big Pharma and and Big Agriculture industries. The FDA is not doing what they were originally intended to do, and that is to protect the food supply.

Why are they even allowed to continue to exist? We need a replacement organization in place with people who have lots of integrity and a good measure of common sense!

  • Myra Lutz

STOP putting arsenic in animal food why don’t the FDA CARE about the human race

  • Soni

Research has shown that poisons put into the bodies of plants and animals is stored in fat cells and distributes throughout the body. That poison remains even through the cooking process and is passed through to us. It’s bad enough to poisong birds and animals; but you are killing us by degrees.

Arsenic is a poison and should not be used in any item in our food chain.

  • Dr. Andrew Vidich

    To FDA,
Please ban arsenic in animal feed. Eating should not be a public hazard and it becomes so when what goes into the food poisons animals, the environment and people. Please do your job, which is to protect us from bio hazards.
    Thank you,
    Dr. Andrew Vidich

  • COME ON THIS IS SO STUPID ON YOUR PART TO PUT THIS CRAP IN THE FEED. WHAT THE HELL IS GOING ON IN THIS WORLD PEOPLE HAVE FORGOT THE PURPOSE OF LIFE , IT IS TO HELP ONE ANOTHER AND TO ALWAYS DO THE RIGHT THING FOR THE SAKE OF DOING THE RIGHT THING
LET’S GET IT RIGHT PEOPLE DO THE RIGHT THING NOW!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!! DEBBIE LANE

  • When will everyone understand that making money is not as important as protecting the health and lives of all people. We never know what we are getting in our food and water. May be it is time to go back to the ways of our ancestors and gro our own food without the use of chemicals.

  • Judi Steele

Please don not let arsenic be used in animal food.

  • I dont want arsenic in my food

  • Valerie Friedman

Yeah! More poison for the public to ingest! We don’t care about anything as long as y’all are making lots of money! So our kids are sick, we can’t reproduce without help, frogs have 3 legs and we all have ADD. Keep on chucking those chemicals into our food, baby. Y’all are trying to take over the world, aren’t you?

  • Judi Steele

Please ban arsenic in animal feed.

  • Rose Holland

I think it is importatant to eliminate arsenic in all animal feed. This is not good for children to eat chickens which have been fed arsenic grain. Please band this poison feed from all animals. Thank you.

  • Larry Russell

    Keep it natural.

  • Therese DeBing

This has no place in our or animal diets

  • Susan Smith

It is horrible that arsenic is allowed in human feed.

  • Even the vultures are dying despite their super immune system needed to offset the toxins in dead carcass of range animals. Then add the processing additives really make our table meat truly hazardous!! Knock off this deadly practice and let us live healthy like our forefathers!!! Grandpa George

  • Adrienne Ross

Please ban arsenic in animal feed.
    Thank you.

  • Candace Collins

What is wrong with you people??? Haven’t we learned that messing with nature DOES NOT WORK!!!!!! The reason we humans get into SO MUCH trouble is because WE TRY to PLAY GOD!!! Alway “changing, improving” HA!!!!
Learn that we CANNOT alter nature without the CONSEQUENCES!!!!

  • Sharon Johnson

I feel that it is imperative to ban use of arsenic in our chicken feed. This accumulation of toxins in humans is not only contributing to serious diseases like cancer but also to our obesity epidemic as well. It is time for all of us to “literally” step up to the plate and be sure it is palatable and healthy for this and future generations.

  • Stephenie Skinner

Chicken tasted much better to me when I was younger. Now I can only eat it breaded with barbecue sauce. I feel nauseas when I eat it plain, so end up giving most of it to my dog.I can’t believe they would put arsenic in their feed, it is bad enough they give them unnecessary antibiotics and how they treat the chickens and roosters is not good.
I think they should be cared for and given the best life they can and their death to be quick.
They give their life for our nourishment, they should care the best they can for them. I hope they take the arsenic out of all the animal’s feed and give them a good life, even into death.

  • Virginia Brien

As the watchdog for our food supply, I urge you to ban arsenic as a feed additive. When I buy poultry at the grocery store, I want to know it’s safe for consumption.

  • Rebecca Ritter

What comes to mind when I read this absurdness is the old saying “You are what you eat” Millions of Americans are eating poison, that has been banned, so that these large companies can make money at our expense. What will it take for the FDA to put a stop to turning an eye to what is really going on in our farming industry.

  • Solaria

Please get the ARSENIC out of the food supply! Tell the Big Corporations & Big Pharma NO on this one, no matter how much MONEY they give you you buy you off! “cui Bobo”? We know who profits. Put an end to it now!

Forget it. Sending the truth will NOT make a difference to these people. We all know the truth on this one. Just forget it. Thanks.

    Dear FDA,

I oppose the use of arsenic in animal feed of any kind. Please ban arsenic and mercury in animal feed.

Do you really need public comment asking for you to keep toxins out of our food chain? Is that not plain common sense, as well as something supported by science? I do not understand why the intelligent, well-trained scientists at the FDA cannot implement ideas like this, which benefit the public, without the public having to insist that they do so. Please start acting the public’s best interest, and do not succumb to industry wishes or lobbyists.

    Sincerely,

    Jennifer McMurtray

I’m outraged that our government and FDA allows this kind of poisoning of it’s citizens! It needs to STOP! No wonder everyone has cancer. I’m more surprised when someone doesn’t get it. A “little” poison is NOT ACCEPTABLE to me! PLEASE….. STOP ALLOWING POISONS IN OUR FOOD SUPPLY (that means what animals eat, too!)

  • Margaret Conway-White

OK, I’m becoming a vegetarian – now see who buys your poisoned chickens!

  • Pat Allee

Arsenic in our food? This is an insane practice and should be banned immediately! We can live with smaller chickens. What we can’t live with are elevated levels of toxins deliberately added to our food. For shame!

  • CAROL SHIAMAN

This information needs to be published in Newspapers and in all Grocery Stores until these deadly chemicals have been removed from our foods!

What kind of people who would think to vote for these chemicals to put into foods consummed by American Citizens and others??? This is outrageous and needs to be stopped instantly!

Thank you for bringing this to my attention!

    Respectfully,

    Carol Shiaman

  • Anna SMith

Arsenic is a poison and carcinogen. It should NEVER be fed to animals. This is why I only eat organic meat/ poultry, and my friends and family do the same. It is immoral to feed poison to animals. Then it ends up in humans, and makes them sick. Can you not truly see how wrong this is???

  • aisha kahlil

Please, for the sake of all of us – please do the right thing!

  • Oralia Acosta

IT is INHUMANE and CRUEL to feed ANY ANIMAL arsenic! Especially those we eat. If any of you that make the laws, ever wondered WHY we are all so sick, overweight, and are inhumanely CRUEL to one another, it is because of what we consume! And, because of WHAT AND HOW we slaughter animals.

We are all eating that bad, negative energy, that in turn makes us behave badly and negatively! STOP THIS INHUMANE PRACTICE NOW!!!!!

  • May Carlin

It’s a blatant lack of responsibility for the FDA to allow lethal & potent chemicals into our food supply in order to appease ‘Big Pharma’ & corporations. This is NOT what this agency was set up for…somehow it’s gotten corrupted by greed!
STOP ARSENIC BEING PUT INTO OUR FOOD CHAIN, NOW!!!

  • Bonnie Richards

Could we please make rulings based on common sense and protection for the people rather than for the sake of big business? No arsenic in ur pet food!!

  • Sandy

    Please stop allowing this process.

  • Robert Ford

Such greedy, power hungry fools we suffer in our rulers, along with a few sensible people.

  • Karen Zelinsky Kite

Nobody needs to eat arsenic in their food. Arsenic should never be ALLOWED to be fed to chicken, or that matter, any human food source.

Please, please, please keep arsenic out of all human food sources.

  • Sue Mosolf

To the Federal Food and Drug Administration: Please start doing the right thing – you may not care about animal life enough to do the right thing – but at least care enough about humanity and stop using arsenic in animal food. It doesn’t matter how small the amount may be – I don’t want to be eating a chicken that has been fed with your greed.

  • jean bout

Stop the MURDER and INSANITY of the igovernment for feeding with arsenic in chickens as well as for allowing people to eat the poisonous chicken.

Something needs to be done about this! The sooner it is done the better. I didn’t even realize that this was being done. It really is staggering what is allowed to be added to our food! This is a disgrace! Where has the FDA been on this? Unbelievable!!!

  • Maureen Kelley

Arsenic has no place in anybody’s food. We allow this to go on because we are lazy and greedy. Stop it now!

  • Stop poisoning Americans!

  • How about some responsible science here. I had no idea arsenic was in chickens. i won’t eat it anymore. In fact i won’t even feed it to my pets. Pretty sick thinking to mess the public up so profits are higher.

    • Sickening— no more for me. No more for my pets. How about some qualified science that informs the public?

  • John Rokas

    Ban Arsenic in FOOD!

  • Kathy Klooster

Allowing toxic substances to enter the food chain is totally ridiculous and beyond stupid. I demand that the FDA ban arsenic from animal food. If you don’t act on this immediately, we the public will know that the FDA is a sham organization, that panders to big business, instead of an agency that works to safeguard the food and drug supply.

  • Jennifer Childers

Please ban all arsenic containing compounds in animal feed. I have not purchased conventionally farmed chickens in 5+ years because of the practice of adding arsenic to the feed. It adds another layer of potential health problems and is completely unneccessary. Thank you for consideration and action.

  • Megan Woods

    Stop poisoning our food!

  • Christine Cameron

Here again you’re asking Mega Agra to cut their own throats. The arsenic will stay in the foods until law absolutely forbids and harshy punishes it. Scant shance of that because the ag giants and FDA are all in bed together. Dump the arssenic and reduce prduction. They guard their bottom lines better than Fort Knox. They will tell what ever pacifying lies are required to keep production up. Those who abstruct that cash flow generally terminate in early graves. You think the mafia is dead? Think again! I told you about the new golden rule, right? Those with the most gold, get laws to protect it! Public health is of no concern. ‘IT’S ALL ABOUT THE MONEY!

QUIT PUTTING ARSENIC IN ANIMAL FEED. WE THE PEOPLE AND OTHER ANIMALS EAT THIS MEAT AND WHAT DO YOU THINK WE GET??? IT IS JUST AS IMPORTANT TO BAN ARSENIC AS BANNING ANTIBIOTIC. FDA YOU DON’T PROTECT THE PEOPLE BUT YOU DO HARM US.

  • “Last December, the Center for Food Safety and the Institute for Agriculture and Trade Policy filed a petition with the Food and Drug Administration calling for the immediate withdrawal of approvals for arsenic-containing compounds used in animal feed. The petition was supported by a coalition of food and farm groups around the country.

Arsenic is powerful carcinogen. The government knows this; they state openly that “the International Agency for Research on Cancer (IARC) has determined that inorganic arsenic is carcinogenic to humans.” And it is now well known that these feed additives lead to arsenic residue both in conventionally raised chickens—that is, chickens sold in supermarkets and restaurants across the country—and in the environment, putting our health at risk.”

Don’t put arsenic in our food supply!

Please ban arsenic from animal feed.
Protect the health of the public.

  • Kim Castle

If you wouldn’t feed it to your family, why would you allow it to be fed to your beloved furry family?

  • Louis Drummond

Please ban the use and require the removal of arsenic and any other carcinogens/poisons in feed/food given to animals.

  • Steven Handwerker

ban arsenic in animal feed! FDA do your job…not corporate bidding!

  • Vicky Vick

My family and I as well as the majority of our friends are very concerned with the misuse of substances that place humans and animals at risk for serious, life-threatening diseases. I don’t think these businesses that produce such products would want to expose their immediate families either. I would rather pay more for a product that has been researched and proven safe to the consumer. In addition, unsafe products would result in more costs to the manufacturers as a result of lawsuits, etc. and eventually would be passed along to the consumer. If the IARC is aware of this, the FDA has the responsibility to oversee that this substance is banned to protect the health of all concerned and at risk.

    Thank you.

  • Marilyn Humphreys

This is totally outrageous & so sneaky…First time that I knew about it,..And to put arsenic, which is a true poison into poultry should be eliminated…..If most of the people in the US knew of this, like they knew of the oil spill now with it’s coverage…They would definitely want this stopped immediately ..What is the FDA out there for? The health of the population should be their # 1 priority…And American citizens should be educated to what they are really eating , the next time they visit KFC !

  • Cindy K

Please keep Arsenic out of Animal Feed

  • Patty Bender

  • Joy A. Tanner

    We don’t want your arsenic.

  • Levanah Shell Bdolak

Please ban arsenic from animal feed. It pollutes the animal, the people who eat the animal and the environment too. Arsenic is a powerful carcinogen. It does not belong in our food or introduced to our environment through feeding animals to fatten or plump them. There is no reason to use this
and many reasons not to use this.

  • Janis Pearson

Please do the right thing and stop this madness.
    Thank you, Jan Pearson

  • Judy Shelton

What possible defense can there be for allowing this practice to continue?

  • Judy Beilharz

Please stop putting arsenic in animals feed. This is cruelty beyond measure and this is passed on to humans which is also a horible thing to do. Allowing this will not help those who do it as people will be more inclined to buy organic produce and meat products. Show concern for the animals and the people who consume these products and KEEP IT CLEAN AND HEALTHY!!!

  • glenn kolbe

Please remove arsenic-compounds in animal feed.

  • Tamela Etheridge

Although I personally have stopped buying and eating commercial chicken my family still does.. if you claim to do what you do to protect the public then why on earth would aresenic be allowed into our food supply? What in the world is wrong with lawmakers these days? I can guarantee that everyone I know will be told of this horrible policy and will be urged to eat organically grown chickens….

  • Patricia Hefner

take arsenic out of animal food

  • OK, I sent this is, revised a bit. My abiding mantra is that instead of having to fight all these individiual battles, always defensively, our goal must be to END THIS EMPIRE–bring home all our military forces to be with their families and only to DEFEND the country, not only from potential foreign aggressors, if any dared, but also to root out these kinds of atrocities you mention. Visualize a government that was truly on our side agisint these corporate abuses! We can do it if we think outside the “reform” box and realize it ALL has to come down and start again, using the wisdom of the founding Fathers and encourage real citizen input on important measures, not just vote for the corporatist of their choosing. Jon

  • Kristi Barlow

    To whom it may concern,
I am appalled that the FDA is allowing arsenic in the feed of any animals, especially those being raised to be used in our food supply! How has these been allowed so long? As a federal agency I expect the FDA to correct this situation immediately and therefore improve the food supply and health of American citizens.
Thank you for your quick resolution to this troubling situation.
    Sincerely,
    Kristi Barlow

  • I don’t want Mercury or Arsenic in our food or our dogs food either. Please keep it out of both our ‘s and our dog’s food. Sincerely Phil & Sharon Alexander

  • The arsenic from chickens and other sources such as water fluoridation and old pressure treated lumber is adversely affecting millions. Take the arsenic out of chickens. See: http://www.flcv.com/arsenic.html

This is another instance of company profits being put ahead of the public’s welfare. it is inexcusable.

  • I live 5 miles from a super-fund site that was forced to close due to high levels of cadmium and arsenic in children’s urine. We could not eat the produce grown in our gardens. We need to be careful of the dust of our earth. This copper refining plant has operated since the turn of the century. We may NO LONGER introduce heavy metals into our food stream. Heavy metals lodge in our fat and our blood. Our children are the recipients. STOP!

  • Shawn

Please, for the sake of everyone (animals and humans!) remove ALL the toxic products from animal feeds! This includes arsenic and antibiotics, to name only two.
    Thank you,
    Shawn

  • I live in Austin TX and will email my Congressman. Now here is where it will get tricky, what will they replace the Atsenic with? You are probably aware in children’s vaccines when they removed Thimersol they replaced it with Aluminium.

  • Richard Fischer

It is totally disgusting that this has happened to begin with. This should never have been allowed. It should definitely be banned.

  • Please vote to stop arsenic from being used in chicken feed. Arsenic is toxic and should not be ingested in any form by humans.

Thanks in advance for protecing my safeth as well as my patients.

  • Robert Ingham

Please consider the immediate removal of arsenic in the feeding of any animal including chickens, where it is consumed by humans. Come on people – It is poison and you know it. Stop being conned by every lobbyist with money. You have a sworn oath to protect the American People from such unethical practices. A little bit of poison here and there that you let the big corps get away with are slowly killing the people, including yourselves and your loved ones. If you let this happen, it will only get worse. Profit should never come before health. Doing so is immoral and un-American. In addition, it will only bring on more law suits, and I don’t pay taxes to help you commit murder.

  • Priya Ellisor

No amount of arsenic in our food is OK. Arsenic is powerful carcinogen. The International Agency for Research on Cancer (IARC) has determined that inorganic arsenic is carcinogenic to humans. . I have been informed that the chicken we buy at the grocery stores are given feed with arsenic added to make them gain weight faster. Please consider the health of the American people and ban the use of arsenic in the feed of chickens.

  • NO ARSENIC IN MY FOOD CHAIN!!!! DID YOU HEAR THAT??? NO, NO, NO, NO, NO ARSENIC IN MY FOOD!!!!!!

  • Scott Steiner

Petition signed and letters to my Senators and Congressmen sent.

  • Arsenic allowed in chicken feed? This is unreal and must be stopped. What’s next, strychnine?: How can poisons be allowed at all in any part of the human food chain? Government agencies are supposed to be protecting the American people, not poisoning them.

  • Calli Madrone

It’s outrageous that the FDA has not yet taken action on adding arsenic to animal feed. Let’s stop this practice immediately.

  • Helen A Goldenberg

We don’t need arsenic in animal feed. The animals don’t need or want it either.

  • Marcia Rock

What part of ‘this is stupid’ don’t you get?

  • Maria Martinez

The theory is that arsenic, being a cumulative poison, will not hurt the chickens because they live such very short lives. But the people, who eat the chickens live into their eighties. Cumulative environmental toxins, arsenic among them, are strongly suspected as the causes of many geriatric diseases and also may affect children whose mothers ate those chickens during pregnancy. WHY TAKE A CHANCE?? It’s time to get toxins out of food. And when they stop adding arsenic, WATCH OUT, because they may start adding something worse.

  • Do NOT add arsenic (POISON) to our food supply. EVERYTHING is connected, this is known, Correct?

Putting arsenic in our food supply is absolutely insane.

    REMOVE ARSENIC FROM ANIMAL FEED…..Honestly, it’s a NO-BRAINER, don’t ya think??

  • Robert Schaefer

The FDA is supposed to be protecting the American consumer. Allowing chickens to be fed with arsenic-containing compounds is not protecting but potentially harming – and all in the name of fatter chickens making more money! Shame on you!

  • Liz Zito

Why? Why? Why? Why in heavens name would you want to put poison in animal foodl… or people food for that matter? Please do tell.

  • Carol Tuskan

The public shouldn’t even have to ask to stop poisoning our food supply. Shame on the FDA for not caring and not doing their job. Government and its agencies is supposed to be FOR the people! Please take action immediately to stop this!!!

  • Geraldine Carl

It is unfathomable to me as to why arsenic cannot be eliminated from our food supply!!
Would you feed this to your children or family?

  • It’s amazing tha tthe American people have no idea what is going on with their food and have no say in it. I expect this to be stopped immediately. thank you.

  • Nancy Snedden

When do I get to stop writing emails for your agency to stop making it legitimate to poison us through our food? I’m FED UP (get the pun?). Please take arsenic OUT of animal food NOW. Thank you.

  • Dr. Christian Palma

WHAT IS WRONG WITH YOU!? Arsenic is NOT for consumption! No Animals, including Humans (an evolved species which you are lower than), would EVER come across such poisons, without disastrous human intervention! Your agenda seems to be purely GREED and HATRED for Mankind! And NO foodstuffs will ever be considered to be “Safe”, by ANY Truly accredited Food Safety organization, unless, of course, it consists entirely of mere pawns in your twistedly evil plan! NO FOOD ANYWHERE WILL E-V-E-R BE TRUSTED, IF YOU MAKE A TRAGIC MISTAKE SUCH AS THIS!!! NO ARSENIC!!!!! NONE!!!!!!!

  • Henry Schwartzman

Dear FDA officials, Now that the fact that arsenic is a public health risk is well known how about taking action to keep it out of the food supply?

  • I am requesting the calling for the immediate withdrawal of approvals for arsenic-containing compounds used in animal feed.

  • Nicole Denison

Please ban arsenic in animal feed. Our children (and adults) absorb enough toxins from our environment without adding arsenic to the mix. Thanks very much — N. Denison

  • DeJay

I would like to know who the nut (or nuts) responsible for putting arsenic in animal feed thst could end up in our bodies. I hope that those responsible get a high dose of arsenic contaminated food to a point they get seriouly ill.

    Dear FDA,

Please stop arsenic from being added to the food supply of chickens. I don’t want even trace amounts of this poison and carcinogen in my diet. Please help!

  • Joanne Denzer

take arsenic out, it is toxic

  • Avis Ingram

We need to lessen the additives we are using in our food supply.Eventually the entire planet and all it’s occupents will be destroyed.

  • Richard

How about getting the FDA to realy start doing it’s job for the USA Public and not just for the Legal Drug Cos.
These things have been known to be in foods and harmful for many years.

Thanks goodness there are Natural Remedies to get this junk out of Peoples systems.

Of course the FDA keeps trying to make sure we do not find out about them.

I can’t wait till the the Fools who made the rules need the Remedies they are working on Banning.

When you play with the fire , you get burned. There are so many demons to fight in this world. Soon, we are going to answer questions in front of GOD , the Creator. The blood of those innocent animals is screaming up to Almighty Father. We take a huge risk to compete with GOD. Heaven is about celebrating LIFE. I am ashamed of being a human being.

  • Troy Dixon

The FDA is a useless organization that does not protect anyone. I doubt if anyone in the FDA has common sense or valid knowledge regarding health issues. If so, they are keeping it well hidden.

  • mark

How many parts per million (billion?) can the human ingest of arsenic withoutit affecting the health? Apple seeds contain arsenic. This seems to by an incomplete hype piece. I would rather have no poisons in my food but the sun rays, alcohol, cigars and motocross have a payoff too, followed by a conequence I do not care for. I need more info on the arsenic level, the type of arsenic and the cosequece of having NO arsenic in my chicken meet to eat. Please address for I am unable to commit due to an incomplete report filled with subjective hype and emotion.

  • Don’t we have enough poisons, chemicals and carcinogens in our food without deliberately adding them to our food supply. Stop it already!!!

  • Bob Yantzer

Leave arsenic out of animal feed. There is no reason arsinec needs to be added to feed except to enhance the pocket books of poultry raisers. Please put greed behing the health of the population.

  • Eileen Kuch

Arsenic is NOT a nutrient to be included in animal feed; but a deadly poison that brings about suffering and death to those who ingest it; and, this includes farm animals who eat the arsenic-tainted feed. Due to its toxicity, arsenuc must be banned from all animal feed.

There are many non-toxic, natural products that can be given to farm animals to eat; but, arsenic, though it may be found in nature, is a poison, not a nutrient. Arsenic has its place; but not in food, whether for people or for animals. Therefore, we strongly urge you to ban this substance from all foods.

  • Lester and Judy Hoyle

Please ban arsenic from all animal feed. Thank you!

  • Diana Hopson

Stop poisoning the animals and the planet, NOW

  • Linda Miller

For heaven’s sake, have you no common sense? Please cease and desist this heinous practice.

  • Down with GMO’s and elitist seed vaults in the Arctic, up with HEIRLOOM ORGANIC SEEDS for the entire world! Stop poisoning the world with carcinogenic arsenic in the chicken feed! Bet you would not eat it now would you? No it’s only for us serfs, right?

Well guess what? WE WILL WAR WITH YOU OVER THIS!

  • Kevin J. O’Rourke

Please take the arsenic out of animal feed.

  • oh and by the way, let’s ABOLISH THE FDA while we are at it – you suck and care nothing for local farmers, nor for the health of millions of Americans! The FDA = Eugenics operation. In 1973 there was a document titled National Secret Security Memorandum #200 where Henry Kissinger said they would use “food as a weapon” – I SINCERELY HATE YOU FOR FOLLOWING THAT. YOU CANNOT KILL US ALL. WE WILL STOP CODEX ALIMENTARIUS, TEAR DOWN SKYNET, and DESTROY THE FDA!

  • Ms. Terry Ellen Robinson

I have just learned that arsenic is fed to poultry to make them gain weight and plumpness. What!?

Arsenic is a known carcinogen. It is a powerful poison, which Americans are eating! I will not buy another chicken until the use of the poison is forbidden to be introduced into the food I eat. The fact that poultry farmers use this poison is abhorent, inhuman, and appalling.

Please legislate that arsenic cannot be used in any production and/or sale of meats, plants, water or other drinks for human consumption.

    Thank you.

  • marie scherbaum

don’t that to happen to our food source. you have to do better than that . marie scherbaum

  • Corinne Enders

I’d like to add, that addition of Jodine to animal feed, too, could be worth checking, as Jodine is probably added too, posing a problem for human nutrition, exposing humans to large quantities of Jodine, with impact on thyroid function. In addition: Jodine salt is used excessively in all kinds of food.

  • Margery Oberheide

Please take action to ban arsenic from animal food. The proliferation of toxic metals that are being ingested, injected, inhaled by the public is fearful. Much as the arsenic treated exterior wood planks and beams are dangerous and now have been banned by the EPA, it is most shocking that the substance of arsenic is knowingly present in animal food and that the FDA as guardians of the American public’s health fails to act to protect the populace by simply banning arsenic in our food supply. Period.

  • George Barnhart

Please ELININATE ARSENIC from all sources of our food supply. This includes animal feed, chicken feed and all other sourced.

Are they kidding!?! Of course we do NOT want arsenic in chicken feed. It’s the same as feeding US aresenic in small doses!

  • Joan Foresman

Absolutely ban the arsenic in animal feed. These poor gov’t actions are making us stop eating meat. And we’re informing others and they’re doing likewise. Plus we’re working to take action against such inept gov’t doings.

  • Patricia kanipe

Is it any wonder that Americans are among the most unhealthy in the “developed” world. What are we developing and for whom? We kill ourselves off in the name of what? Bigger profits?

  • Annie Acker

Ban arsenic in all animal feed IMMEDIATELY. How could you allow such a toxic, deadly thing!!! Where is your concern for both animal and human health???????? As if our bodies weren’t dealing with an overload of toxins in the air we breath, the water we drink and now in our food supply…………………..

  • Andrea Costello

Please no arsenic in animal feed – it is a poison. It is insane. Feed should not contain poison. Then humans eat the animal that ate poison – sound crazy. It is crazy. Animal feed does not need arsenic and I don’t want it in my food or other people or animals food!!!!

  • Laura Kuhn

Please act to ban arsenic in animal feed now. It is a poisonous chemical and should be removed from the food chain. Thank you.

  • Spencer Selander

With current scientific knowledge of arsenic’s long-term hazards, we should be doing our best to limit our exposure to this toxin; adding arsenic to our food supply is unacceptable. Ban arsenic in animal feed.

  • sharon kerley

Please stop feeding arsenic to our animals. I am just horrified that we trust you with our health and this is how you repay us. I also love our animals and cannot stand to think that they are being abused with food full of arsenic. Even aside from my health I do not like this kind of animal abuse./ STOP ARSENIC IMMEDIATELY in our animals food. sharon kerley

  • velinaburgoyne

Please remove this very dangerous substance from the animal feed immediately!! Why is the FDA not protecting US citizens from these harmful additives??

  • Wilbur Canterbury

This is rediculous. The Food & Drud Administration is nothing, but a pawn of the Pharmaceutical Cartel which has no intention of curing diseases, but making all the money they can from the very diseases they lie about trying to cure. This arsenic in animal feeds is one proof of the total disregard the Pharmaceutical Cartel has for the safety of the American public. They know it causes cancer. They are not looking for a cure because a cure would eliminate thier cash cow. They’re after one thing, and one thing only, the money, and nothing else. And the Food & Drug Administration is making it possible for them to do just that. That’s not health care, that’s genocide!

  • susan harwood

i,m more concerned about feeding poison to animals, who dont have a choice, humans have the choice wether to buy it or not.

  • Tracy Grauel

    This is insane.

  • Carol Jarvie

I’m going to enjoy my next plate of organic portabellos, thank you. I have no interest in meat that is tained with poison.

  • Anne McGrath

It is getting very difficult for families to find healthy food for dinner. Is there a governmental war on wholesome food? Apparently so, when such things are even allowed…

  • Arsenic is a powerful carcinogen. Please ban the use in chicken feed, and help bring our food back to what it is meant to be. Food should not be poison. Thank you.

  • Karen Fenneman

If there is any conscience left at all in the FDA staff, stop the insanity of allowing all the toxic chemicals and additives to be used in our food supply. Don’t your families have to eat the same food the rest of Americans eat and be slowly poisoned?

Let’s have some ethical, moral, and honest decisions made by the FDA regarding the poisons allowed in our food and label every food item correctly!

    STOP POISONING OUR FOOD SUPPLY!

  • Karen Fenneman

Stop the FDA from allowing us to be poisoned.

  • Leia

For goodness sake, it baffles me as to why, if people know that something is not GOOD for their health, and not only not good but deadly, they continue to do it. Arsenic is a poison. It kills. What does that tell you? Anything? Think about it, but in the meantime, get it out of our animals’ feed. NOW!

  • Gergory Fox

A Little incidental mass poisoning for profit? Not surprising. But not to be allowed. Greed respects no boundary except when bound by those empowered to do so.

  • Diane Abel

It is abhorrent to tamper with the safety of our food supply for the sake of profit. The FDA’s responsibility and charge is to protect the publc from such threats, and their ban of arsenic and any other poison in animal feed is expected and necessary.

  • joanne roland

What is the deal? Why isn’t the FDA concerned with the public health? It seems everyday there is another issue. Somebody is not doing their job. It is time to make a big change in the FDA if the people can not depend on the FDA to protect us. They have the information. What are they doing with it? Hiding the risks? I don’t get it the FDA and it’s employees are being exposed to the same risks. Are the powers and their children not exposed to the same food supply? I got news for the powers that be, YOU AND YOUR RELATIVES ARE BEING EXPOSED EITHER DIRECTLY OR INDIRECTLY. What are you leaving for the next generation? Where is your CONSCIENCE!

  • Who ever thought arsenic in your food was a good idea? Our corporate farming methods are out of control and they will not stop their quest for the lowest cost/highest profit at any cost mindset on their own. It is up to the government and the people to at least raise the minimum bar to an acceptable standard. So far the Government has a VARY POOR track record of setting boundaries and policing big business whether it be the oil industry or the food industry. We have had way too many breakdowns in regards to federal oversight from salmonella in spinach, antibiotics in our foods, growth hormones, and now we find arsenic in animal feed to fatten them up and have the meat look nice while it kills us. All of these toxins work their way up the food chain and concentrate themselves the further up one goes. That would be us at the top collecting all of these toxins in our bodies and having to process them. Bad plan!!!

  • SHERRI CANTRELL

    BAN ARSENIC IN ANIMAL FEED!

  • kim

Why is this even an issue?????? Unless of course YOU like eating arsnic along with the rest of the general population. I buy organic from my local farmer.

  • Frances O’Neill

I am sick of the FDA. As far as I am concerned that branch of the government should be shut down. We are the sickest industrialized country in the world thanks to them.

Please Keep Arsenic and all othyer harmfull products out of feed for our animal feed and hire more people to keep or food supply safer.

    Thank you.

  • Lynn Hartt

Why would anyone in their right mind and in a position of authority allow the things to happen that are happening in Canada and the US. For God’s sake, take the arsenic out of the chicken feed and use your heads.

  • Marian Porter

Please see that the deadly poisonous heavy metal arsenic is banned immediately from all animal feed.

  • Sheila Brooks

I would rather not have my food poisoned, by anyone, thank you very much.

  • Sandra Lane

I left America because it was too heartbreaking to see what big money and corporations are doing to the country I love. Drug companies and the oil industry run the country. They are trying to remove over the counter vitamins from within our grasp and at the same time poisoning the food we eat. The only reason I don’t think they are trying to kill us is that we are the source of their profits. However, if we are sick and unable to eat healthy food or take vitamins, then we can always buy their drugs. Hmmm.

  • Karen J. Puglia

Please ban arsenic and all unhealthy byproducts from pet food.

  • Sandra Bonnette

We have enough to make us sick, without you trying to kill us.

  • Randy & Irene Fish

The safety of our food supply is THE MOST important nutrition issue facing us today. Our children & gandchildren’s lives depend on a safe food supply, and we are not currently providing this. PLEASE act NOW to eliminate poisons & toxins from our food supply!!!!

Ban arsenic in animal feed. Eating toxic heavy metals makes no sense!

  • Laurie

Okay, are you SERIOUS…? Arsenic…? C’MON PEOPLE!!! Just how stupid do you have to be?? They’re putting poison in our food. Even if they cry “its in small amounts”…its still poison, and it adds up over time. Seriously….why has the FDA allowed this for so long? Do they not have one common sense brain cell amoungst them all?

    DUH!

  • d

we are slowly killing ourselfs. it needs to stop.

  • Sylta Kalmbach

Has the population had any say in this?? Simply adding “stuff” to our drinking water is adding insult to injury. Will we have to try to find “organic water” now also?? Or “organic air”?? We are already so over-polutted and filled with man-made toxins!!

  • Sylta Kalmbach

Is anyone watching the population getting sicker and sicker from more and more toxins added to our food!!

    • Margaret McElligott

Arsenic in the food we eat? Have they lost their minds?

  • Sara Thornton

Please remove arsenic from the food chain. All of these additives such as pesticides, antibiotics and toxins are making it impossible to sell American agricultural goods overseas in Europe and other countries that have strict labeling laws. If the American public was allowed to know freely what was in their produce, they would not buy these products either. More people are turning to organic and local small farms because of these practices. Please ban it now so that Americans who cannot afford organic or who are not educated about the health risks do not continue to eat this food. It is the poor and the people who regularly eat at fast food restaurants who suffer just so that huge agribusiness and agrichemical companies can get richer.
The FDA needs to step up to the plate and stop being a mouthpiece for agrichemical and agribusiness and big business. Please for once, think about the health of the US population and the environment.

  • Renee Drescher

We cannot afford to endanger people’s lives by polluting the food chain. Our oceans and now our livestock are being polluted and we will be left with very little in the way of food alternatives. Lets make the smarter decision and give these animals the time they need to grow to appropriate size without adding poisons to their, and our meals.

  • Kathy Palace

Please discontinue all arsenic in our foods

  • Mary Ann Coffey RD

It is criminal behavoir to add a poison to an animal feed for chickens that are to be consumed by humans. The general public has not been told of this practice and it needs to be revealed.

Its no wonder so many people are getting cancer, including myself. arsenic in our food, its crazy!
Also clorine in our water system mixes with the minerals in the water and creates DIOXIN which
is 300 times more toxic than DDT, and they bleach white flour and other food items with clorine.
Also most soft drinks have bensoat as a perservative in them which is a derivitive of gasoline an
mixed with citric acid (vitamen C) which many of them have, it turns into benzene which is
used in some paints and highly cancerus causing. Also, in the processing of soybeans used in
all kinds of foods, including baby formulas, are proscessed with a derivitive of gasoline , which
is highly explosive and cancer causing. Is the goverment trying to kill off its population, and
give the medical workers jobs or what?

  • Karen Guthrie

The food that animals eat eventually ends up in the body of humans. Could you not practice common sense for once! And to think some of you idiots are elected.

  • Charit Moschopoulos

It boggles the mind how the bottom line always seems so much more important than people’ s health, including that of the officers of corporation’s children who cannot avoid eating this terrible stuff. Unbelievable!

  • Anna R

When will it stop – the various agencies/companies that keep poisoning the people – all in the name of profit and getting rid of toxic chemicals. How about not generating toxic chemicals then they would not have to worry about how to get rid of it ! Dah !

  • Karen-Lynette Bauer

As a primary healthcare practitioner, I consider the most important single thing we all can do to remain healthy or regain our health if we have lost it is to have a very pure, healthful diet. How can you even consider allowing arsenic into the food chain in chicken feed? It’s absurd, and there is no science to defend your position.

It’s time to change this policy.

    • Mike Kelly

ban the Arsenic and all other chemicals in our food, so it is healthy to eat, not making more health problems

  • Linda Freier

    Hi,
I would love to sign the petition, but after clicking on a few of the links above and not seeing a link to sign I gave up.

  • pat adams

How frightening to know our food contains arsenic. Please protect us and our future generations by taking arsenic out of our food chain. We shouldn’t eat beef, the waters our fish swim in are contaminated, now this. Maybe I should be a vegetarian!! pat adams

  • Julia Zaustinsky

Please ban arsenic, a known carcinogen, from all animal feed. We must stop making Americans ill from the contaminated food they eat.

  • marilyn diamond schnell

I long ago stopped eating chicken because of the commercial farming practices that I’m fighting in this email. But my children and grandchildren eat more chicken than anything else. THIS PRACTICE AND ALL THE OTHER FILTHY MEASURES that are part of the commercial factory farming industry MUST BE BANNED.

  • Antoinette Armente

Arsenic is animal feed must be banned immediatly.
Our food is poisoned with thousands of chemicals and additives. Even fresh produce is sprayed with deadly formaldhyde. MSG is sprayed on crops. Food in America is no longer fit for human consumption.

  • Bobette Seymour

Get the poisons out of our meat!!!

  • I have not eaten any animal for over two years after learning how dangerous eating animals is to my health. Bravo, for the documentary “Food, Inc.” which has clearly educated the world to the danger to their health of eating animals.

  • Garry Smith

The removal of arsenic is just one of a multitude of changes that need to be made by our regulators and food producers.

  • Lisa

WHy don’t you add a share this article button so we can easily forward it on through the social media like facebook.

  • Heather Penny

Stop poisoning our children and families! Any amount of mercury is poisonous to the human system.

  • Linda

NO! Say it isn’t so! It is difficult to believe that so called “smart” people would allow this.
What in the world were you thinking to allow poisons like this is food? It makes you a whole lot less trustworthy. A long time ago the FDA could be trusted. No longer, not any longer!!!!
Shape up or get out of the way of those who are trying to do the right things.

  • Please give me any good reason that I should have to write the FDA to tell it not to allow arsenic in chicken which people and other animals will eat? If any one of you at the FDA can’t figure that out for yourself, you don’t belong at the FDA where your purported objective is to protect the citizens of this country from damage via food and drugs. Yes, I know how it REALLY work: You work directly for pharma and any manufacturer of poison you can find to fund you. You also rape the public taxes in the name of public safety which you continue to make every possible lousy decision you can in favor of poisons as part of the drugs you approve and and the contaminated food you allow.

NO, I DON’T WANT YOU TO ALLOW ARSENIC IN CHICKENS OR ANY OTHER PART OF THE FOOD SUPPLY!

My very next letter is to my senator and representative and to the US President suggesting we could solve a portion of the economic crisis we face by canning every part of the FDA, which frankly has no interest in supporting human health, is incompetent enough to need me to generate this letter, and who wouldn’t know science or health or healthcare or food if it were covered in a neon sign explaining its importance.

Really sick of you, gentlemen! Get a life! For this and all the other drug frauds you’ve perpetrated, go directly to prison! You are a public disgrace and have contorted minds that should not roam freely among the rest of the population.

    Sue A. Blanton, DC

  • Thomas Epps

What are you, the FDA, thinking???? Pull your head out of your butt and start doing your job to PROTECT the food supplies and the people!!!! Fire all the FDA and put some people in there that have some common sense and not industry representatives. This agency is broken and needs to be fixed and not two years from now!

  • Kristy

When will the bottom line stop overshadowing the health of America? How frightening to know our food contains arsenic along with all the other additives and chemicals that is the undermining our health. Please protect us and our future generations by taking arsenic, et al out of our food chain. We must stop making Americans ill from the contaminated food they eat.

    • Lou

Sadly the bottom line has already been overshadowed. At first when I tell people the real bottom line people are shocked into incredulity but please contemplate my answer for a day or so before rejecting it out of hand. For it is the ONLY answer that fits ALL the data we have to work with.

The reason our food supply is contaminated in so MANY ways by so MANY government agencies is simply because the people who control our government health agencies want it that way. I leave it to you to answer WHY they want it that way.

  • Kathy Johnson

It is totally absurd that the FDA who is supposed to protect the population from harmful additives would ever agree to put arsenic in chicken feed knowing fully well that it would poison millions of people in this country. It is time the FDA was called to account for violating the very purpose for their existence. They are supposed to protect u, not poison us!!!!!

  • JOYCE MEREDITH

What are we doing??? For those who need the meat – please just don’t buy it! Go organic instead. The information about what goes on people’s plate need to be out – the general public is unaware what they have been consuming!

  • Ms.Renee (Woolsey)Smeaton-Burgess

I understan the chickens that we eat are fed arsinic(poison). What is wrong with those who are allowing it ? Even you and your children are at risk. Step up to the plate and do something about it.
    Renee

  • Karlyn Schneider

What in the world is wrong with so many people, they are so ignorant and selfish in their way of thinking. Money, money, seems to have warped people’s priorities.
I sure hope and pray when I buy our chicken etc., and it says, All natural no antibiotics etc… they really mean it, because I depend on the labels to be true, so I can feel I am giving my family something to eat that isn’t going to end-up in the long run harming our health. Or, is this what these idiots want????

  • Brenda Lewis

Stop adding all of this garbage and poison to OUR Food and our PETS Food! Yesterday!

  • Karen Spettel

The FDA allows various poisons being added to all of our food sources and are working on a “cure for cancer” at the same time?! Hummm, they must be working with the drug companies and undertakers too. There’s BIG $$$ going in someone’s pockets and are definately not helping the victims (human and animals) they have created…….

  • Janet

Stop feeding animals arsenic now. What is the harmful additive doing to our children and adults that we will be paying for in later years? Stop this now.

  • Aaron

Ban It! It is insane to allow this. Actually, the “insane” theory could explain alot of regulations today, like the attempt to screw over all who use HEALTH SUPPLEMENTS. Ok, you want to ban healthy things, and allow arsenic?

  • For years it arsenic was added to chicken feed to subsain harder egg outer shells. Now we know, that this leeches into their system, hence, into ours (not mine; I do not consume this; yet who knows what is inside the various foods I eat containing eggs in any form. I don’t eat chickens nor meat, yet I do buy organic cage-free, no anti-biotics added eggs. My boyfriend purchased organic, cage-free chicken eggs, yet they were feed whole grains. I recently read that chickens who are lucky to be free-roaming & cage free should be feed a vegetarian diet free from grains. I will shop for this myself. Your comments are from serious animal friendly people & or not, & from people who just want to eat as healthy as they can without added poison.

  • Devi

The FDA is nothing but a bunch of greedy bastards! How anyone involved can sleep at night I will never know! It’s not just arsenic poison they allow into our food supply there are hundreds of other poisons (MSG, Aspartam, pesticides the list goes on and on) They know it’s wrong and it’s causing cancer among many other illnesses, but cancer is a huge money maker for the tied FDA/pharmaceutical companies. I’m sure they feed theirselves and families organic to avoid all the poisons…they can afford to. FDA IS NOT TO BE TRUSTED!!!!!!!

  • judi Merl

Yesterday we found that the Organic food inspector and certification person was indicted for a ‘Conflict of Interest’ as he had stock in or was heavily investedd in the corporations whose food was being certified; now why should be be worried about about arsenic as an allowable ingredient in anything, especially chicken, on the American market? Things are definitely out of control at the FDA if we need to worry about begnign supplements labeled as drugs and toxic meat in our refrigerated counters at supermarkets…in crises economical and environmental, as well as endless war and “medicare” ripoffs. What a travesty our govt. is perpetrating with our taxes…and regulatory bodies.

  • Ann Curtis

FDA and all other governmental “watch groups”: Please do not only ban arsenic from animal feed and, thus, from human consumption, but also work on restoring our food supply so that it’s actually FIT for human consumption–and not just to make us ill so the pharmaceutical companies can get rich. Please, by now you should be well aware that WE, the American People, are aware of what YOU are doing. We know you are making us sick so giant corporations can become rich off our suffering. What do you feed your family, your children? The same disease-ridden crap? Do you make sure they have every vaccine under the sun, as well as every pharmaceutical drug they could possibly take? Do you care about your health, or the health of your children? IF so, then why aren’t you safeguarding our food supply better? Not only that, but our water supply, our environment? If we don’t take care of our food supply, there will be no one left to live on earth. A person cannot live if the body doesn’t receive the correct amount of nutrition–and by nutrition, I mean REAL nutrition and nutrients, not those manufactured in a lab. As I’ve said before, unless you know about and have entrance to a paradise somewhere where you know you can eat uncontaminated food, drink pure water, and breathe fresh air–where do you think that will leave you? And do you really think THEY will let you in?

  • Kitty C

Please ban all arsenic in our chickens and any other feed for animals that we are suppose to consume, I personally feel this part of the cause for some of our cancers in our great Americans.

  • Diane B.

Since we know that arsenic is a poison and a carcinogen, it makes no sense to allow it into the food supply just so factory farms can make an extra buck on their poor, toxic, fattened birds. But because this has gone on so long and there is no easy way to draw a direct correlation between human illness and this practice, it is easy for the FDA to ignore it completely. As consumers become aware of the many health and environmental issues that plague this industry, factory farms will either conform to consumer demands or lose their business to organic, free range, sustainable and local alternatives. Since the FDA has forgotten how to do it’s job, that outcome may be the best we can hope for.

  • Margot Zinderlique

I agree…there is nothing that we can say that will change this. But we can stop buying eggs from the store and start buying from farmer’s market’s and people that may have homegrown chickens and eggs.

  • David

I wrote my daughter, a 4th year Vet student at U FL here is her response:
It is true that arsenical compounds are added to chicken feed, probably for 30 years or so it’s been the case. Probably all the commercial companies use it. The truth is they are added in small quantities to kill parasites in the chickens, that’s why it promotes growth…not by directly adding muscle but by killing worms in the chickens. It is excreted in their poop almost unchanged and mostly unabsorbed by the chicken too. The FDA does regulate testing the meat to make sure the levels measured in the meat is teeeny tiny.

The real problem isn’t eating the meat, except for organic people, the only real problem is what all the chicken manure is used for. Since that’s where most of this arsenic is, if a ton of manure is used to fertilize a field does that arsenic go into the water supply, etc.

    Does that answer your question?
    Love you,
    Ariel

    • Kelby

I like the way your daughter thinks! Unfortunately most people would have been fine knowing it’s fed to them to kill parasites and mostly passes on. Never thinking about where the arsenic goes after it leaves the chicken. There is no justification for feeding poisons/toxins to people or animals, especially considering there are safe alternatives. Wonder why they don’t use food grade Diatomaceos Earth? Someone should ask the demons at Monsanto this question too.

  • Susan Huff

I do not want arsenic, calcium or floride in anything. All are carcinogens and do not belong given to animals or people. Just because we have lobbiests putting pressure on, doesn’t mean the people should be sold out by the FDA.

  • Marilyn Bloomer

This has been going on for a long time. We wonder why cancer rates have increased, alzheimers rates have increased, weight gain is a problem even for those who try to eat healthy. Why do we let this go on? I suspect money and laziness in those paid to monitor such things. No wonder we are ready to pitch out politicians and clean house both blue and red.

  • Lorene Proctor

The FDA MUST ban the use of arsenic in chicken feed immediately. The FDA only exists to protect the citizens of the USA. Allowing this practice to continue is NOT protecting the American citizens. I call for the complete ban of arsenic in feed immediately!

  • Speaking of the bottom line, not unlike many issues of life. Change can come from within the essence of one’s family. Educating, discussions at the dinner table, on what is transpiring in the world. Concerns and options on what we can do by the choices we make. Bottom line, we can voice our concerns. We can take community actions. Hence the growth of organic farming, free range chickens, etc… Instead of mainstreaming, support our local farmers. More can be done. Find out your options. Core strength starts at home.

  • Evelyn Lester

We are being forced to stop eating chicken, and other food for that matter, unless it’s organic. These horriffic practices are leading us to an unhealthy society. FDA needs to eat the products it endorses. Bon Appetit.

  • Shepard Kahn

It would be nice if this article had some actual numbers. How much arsenic is being given per animal? How much remains in the flesh when we butcher it for consumption?

As with all chemicals, the DOSE makes the poison. We allow 1 part arsenic per 100million in drinking water because at that level, there are no measurable adverse affects. If this practice produces significantly higher arsenic content, I would support legislation to stop it. Otherwise, this is fear-mongering and much ado about nothing.

  • Randi Light

I cannot believe I have to ask the government to NOT put something toxic into food. Somebody teach them the science basics called “The Food Chain.”

  • Nettie Clarek

    Please
Sign the bill prohibiting arsenic from our food supply via chickens and other livestock. thanks Nettie Clarke

  • Mona Hughes

Big business has done so much to drive small farmers and dairy farmers out of business, now they want to poison the population with arsenic in the feed. If we can’t trust these agribusinesses, then they need to be put out of business and bring back the small farmers etc. They know what good food is about and want to produce that good food, not spend all their time trying to make the immediate profits. Stop the practice of putting arsenic and hormones in chicken and cattle feed to make the animals grow bigger, not better. We are counting on you to protect our food. As it stands now, more people are turning to non-meat products for their total food intake.

  • Nancy Miller

The FDA is bought off by big corporations and big pharma. They continue to let things go on that are killing people. We would be in shock if we knew all the garbage and poisons put in our food. Have you read about GMO seeds? How about how congress wants to take our right to buy natural vitmamins and herbs away, let big pharma control it all. Vitamins will become a prescription, giving even more profits to big parma. They will then be all chemicals. This country is nuts! I recently watched “Food Inc”, eveyone should see this. Not only do they give chickens poison, but during processing they are washed in 5 clorine baths. More poison. They want to kill us off, the world is overpopulated.

  • Ira Gottlieb

Is there enough posions and chemicals out there to kill us.If u gave a person arsenic in a glass of water and they died its murder.Whatis the differences here?

  • TJ

Please ban arsenic and any other harmful additions to the food fed to our food. The FDA does very little to protect us these days and people need to start speaking up. Its no wonder we’re all so sick and have fat kids. Our bodies don’t know how to handle the poisons that we are feeding them. We think that because we live in America our food is safe. That is unfortunately untrue.

  • Jacque

This is disqusting and irresponsible! I can’t believe this practice was ever FDA approved to begin with. The lives of our children are at stake and that is not acceptable!

  • Sarah Flink

PLEASE BAN THESE AWEFUL PRACTICE IN OUR FOOD SUPPLY. NO ARSENIC!!! JUST REMOVE IT

  • Sarah Flink

PLEASE BAN ARSENIC IN OUR FOOD SUPPLY!! WE CANT LIVE WITH IT.
    Sincerely,
    Sarah Flink

  • Mareta

If arsenic makes the chickens fat, perhaps that is why America is so obese now. Maybe we are getting fat from the arsenic that we eat in our chicken. Please stop feeding our chickens arsenic!

  • Carolyn

Please stop feeding chickens arsenic. Perhaps this is one of the reasons that I have some problems after eating chicken. Can’t they ever be honest about anything.

  • What happened to Obama’s HEALTH and energy reform act?? Arsenic MUST be BANNED from US food supplies immediately!!

  • Will Leverett

Common Sense, is so uncommon!! Even a moron knows that arsenic is a heavy metal poison and should not be included in animal or human food. The FDA could do us all a favor by paying attention to practices like this, and stop messing with trying to ban supplements.

  • Shades of Arsenic and Old Lace, we don’t need to have a crazy relative anymore, the FDA will do us in!

  • lizzy

Chemicals should not be used in food. Period! I don’t see why the govt doesn’r realize it is their responsibility to protect the people in these areas.

  • Deb

May we all just die now? Oh, I forgot, the drug companies have to get our last bit of money from us and THEN we can die from the poison in our foods. Yum. How close to the line do the companies have to go before someone finally calls them on it? How many people, especially children have to die before something is done? I use to dream that our food would be what kills us and it is happening….but its not the food, its the greed.
The FDA has a whole new name meaning for me and a total loss of respect. These are your children, your neighbors, your country, have you no respect of life at all?????!!!!!

  • How does anybody justify the safey of human beings by adding poisoning to foods to animals for thier health the the human being who consume them? I just don’ t get it?
The chemists and the manufactures of feed need to be sued and the Federal government by the people.
I have mentioned on my website the horrific conditon in Okalhoma…..chemicals to fertilize grazing land for animal consumption is loaded with toxic radiation from nuclear waste and the children who live near by are getting cancer and fish are being born deformed…..and nothing happens to stop this huge condition because the bottom line is money and what to do with Atomic Waste…..the people are totally ignored.
It is time to stand up and start punching…..we have future generations who are at serious risk and probably without a leg to stand on, too.
    I say, “No.”
    WellnessAnswers.org (google.com)

  • Steve Yeager

The FDA should not even have to be petitioned to ban this. It should be automatic!!

  • Nancy Holt

Just as the MMS has had the enforcement division separated from the Mineral Management Service administration (and political appointments–due to the Gulf oil spill); all federal and state agencies need to have separate divisions of enforcement–whose only job is to enforce the agency laws as established by Congress.

Did you know that all enforcement officers have the power of “discretion” on whether to enforce the laws of that agency–or to look the other way? Unless and until each agency (state and federal) actually enforces the food safety and environmental laws of the USA–we all are at risk–and the agencies are responsible for the growth of adverse human health and deaths! It that serious–and only we can stop it. Contact your Congress members now and demand that the EPA, FDA, USDA and other agencies separate enforcement divisions and hold them accountable when we have toxic food contamination, oil spills, dioxins in milk from pasture land applied sewage sludge or arsenic is used to speed up the weight gain for poultry, cattle and hogs. Were you also aware that dead animals are sent to rendering plants and cooked for addition to animal feed? We have turned herbivores into carniverous animals and it is showing up in the quality of our own food supply! Get mad, get on the phone, your computer and tell your House or Senate representative what you want to happen—NOW! Without your voice and mine–it will never change.

    RE: To all who read,
I have been reading up on organic foods & all the food adulterations that are put in them for
the last 45yrs. What our dear (Government) is doing is KILLING the american public a little bit at a
time doing such things as: Oking all the ;chemicals that are in 99% of the food in the stores.
The Chemical & Drug companies are (ALL) in bed with the EPA & the FDA along with the Dept
of Agriculture. This is really one HELL of a combination & it (= DEATH). Most people are brain-
washed into thinking that , (The government is here to PROTECT us). The real truth is they want
to get rid of (ALL) organic foods & also your own gardens along with good supplements. If
you put your life in government hands, (Believe this, YOU’RE DEAD) John R Stockhausen

    • Miriam

John R Stockhausen, You are so right! How do you avoid these toxins. Even organic products contain them…
      please advise.
      thanks!
      Miriam

  • Miriam

Are Kosher chickens also given Arsenic feed?

  • vincent

FDA was formed by dr’s lobbying congress because back then folk didnt go to the dr. unless they were deathly ill. Its a money and power racket…that’s all it ever was. Now it along with the EPA is being used for population control and to destroy us from within. FDA is the biggest reason our Healthcare is so expensive, that along with patients suing and these liberal judges awarding ungodly settlements. NOT A WORD in the ‘so-called reform bill’ about lawsuit reform!! NOT EVEN 1 WORD. Its a scam. America could possibly be saved if we do away completely with FDA,EPA,CIA,CFR,Federal Reserve and Southern Poverty Law Center. These subversive groups are run by greedy America hating Communist’s. But that’s not going to happen so theres no hope for stopping the inevitable demise thats coming at us. Weve been taken over people and it happened a long time ago. JFK was murdered by the REAL govt. The ones we don’t see. FDA IS ENEMY WITHIN AND SHOULD BE DEALT WITH AS SUCH. All other countries are without an FDA, and are much MUCH Better off.

  • britt

Why in the world do we have the FDA if it doesnt even try to protect the American people.??? or just dont understand why the government isnt doing its job to protect our children from dying from cancer worse. hum i wonder how much the FDA is getting paid to smug the rules

  • Truman

Come now stop the poison in our animals food , What have we come to do we need a dept. that approves poison for food approves all bad medicine bans all good medicene and herbs, and vitamins and forbeds all unaproved practices doctors can do any thing but practice it would be lauphable if it was some place else ho ho ho heeeee

  • R L Sarch

Ridiculous that this is happening. We eat organic, so I hope that they do not have arsenic
    in them also.
If they do, then we will not be able to have any poultry, just vegetables and fruit that is organic.

No additives, chemicals, arsenic, or anything like that in my foods at all.

How would the people in the agriculture dept. that inspect the chickens ,and so on like
    to eat arsenic,and chemicals themselves?

Stop the chemicals, coloring, and all additives in the foods.

  • Herb Hain

HI, Guys why are you knocking yourselves out? All we need is a law making it illegal (jail time) for anyone who changes the food supply with anything added to it that was not there before (natural state)
We cannot keep fighting all fronts of this food issue.

  • Bronwyn Guild

Whatever expenses are assumed to be saved in this horrific process of poisoning will cost a fortune in health expenses, both monetary, and more importantly, in the physical health of the population.

It’s not worth it. I join millions of others in demanding that the practice of arsenic feeding to farmed animals be outlawed and extinguished immediately.

Arsenic? I have arsenic in my water and I DON’T DRINK IT. I eat A LOT of chicken and never knew arsenic was in animal feed. STOP IT, STOP IT, STOP IT. You want to kill the public just because you want to make money and be greedy?

  • This what happens when we as American Citizens sit back and do nothing. And let big government chooses what is best for us. Government, lawyers, doctors don’t know best. Mother Nature knows best. Rise up because it could and will get worse. And for those companies that are slowly and painfully killing us with their toxic poisions. I hope you and your families suffers the same fate as we do. Maybe this will change your attitudes on health first, isntead of profits. How much money is enough for you greedy f…. Thank goodness for organizations like Alliance For Natural Health, who not only puts out this vital information in public view, but who also fights for our rights! Keep up the fight.

Arsenic in animal feed? Are you kidding me? Apparantly not.

Oh what’s a little poison here and there…?!

  • John Walsh

Ban arsenic from animal food now. That is a no-brainer. Everything seems to be tainted these days. This is another item that has to be addressed immediately.

Greed, there is no torrent quite like it. May you reap what you sew.
Please don’t put arsenic in animal feed.

  • Ginny C.

    What? WHERE ARE YOUR HEADS??!!!
If arsenic isn’t poison, why is it regulated? Why is it used in rat poisons??
Why would you even *think* of making this poison an additive to the feed that goes to food animals??
Well, I am not making a request that the arsenic be removed from animal feed. I AM DEMANDING IT!!! My family’s health and very lives depend upon safe food! Shame on you!!

Once you turn 50, you are no use to business. You’ve worked the best years of your life and have already bred and raised the new generation of workers. After pouring both blood and sweat for over 3 decades to work just to feed your family and put a roof over it, why give you welfare and social security? When the upper classes can keep that money to enrich themselves more. What better way then to make sure we die before we can ever reach retirememt. Think about it our water is poisoned, our air is poisoned, and our food supply, too. Do you think the government doesn’t know that corn syrup is poisoness or bormide which is in all of our bread and flour, or that radiating and microwaving food causes cancer or arsenic in chicken? Corn is not cheaper than beet sugar just like coal is not a cheaper source of electricity than solar or wind panels. It is just they are more heavily subsidized by our taxpayer money. It is the fact that our taxpayer money subsidizes these products that they are cheaper for large corporations to use. Why is the government subsidizing coal for example which is so expensive to subsidize rather than investing in solar and wind energy which is so cheap it doesn’t need to be subsidized at all? It is because, they have decided to kill us faster, to make sure we don’t make it to retirement. Over 20% of the population doesn’t make it pass 40 and 1/3 of the population doesn’t make it retirement age of 65. Concerning arsenic: I live in NJ and we have high levels of arsenic in our water. I use a Multi-pure water system that hooks up to my facet. If you are interested in buying a system, I am not only a customer, but a distributor. Just email me at: [email protected]

    no arsnic in our food

What we need are lawyers who are just as shocked and appalled as we are to start gathering evidence, like DNA hair samples of not only children, but ALL of us and then filing a huge class action suit against the FDA. If the entire country sues the FDA, I think someone might take more notice than just a bunch of comments to a news story.

Any attorneys out there willing to put their necks on the line to start this ball rolling? We’re being systematically murdered by the pigs at the FDA so they can have their pockets lined by Big Business.

    Attorneys??? Speak up!

  • Roseann

I am outraged, but not in the least bit surprised. The FDA is back to business as usual, or I should say BIG business.
My husband and I just purchased a dairy farm in New York state and we are raising chickens both for eggs and for meat. We want to raise them organically, so when we got our first batch of chicks we went to a well known store that sells agricultural products and animal feed, I won’t mention the name, and we asked for Organic Chicken feed. They looked at us like we had two heads and asked, Why organic? What are you afraid of? Needless to say, we don’t patronize that store anymore. I’m happy I don’t buy chicken from the supermarket anymore. Raising farm fresh organic pastured free range chickens is rewarding and their meat is delicious. The conventional chicken in the supermarkets are raised indoors..they never see the light of day and by free range, they just mean that the chickens are free to roam within the confines of the chicken house. Being since there are literally thousands of chickens in one house, the roaming space is limited. It’s no wonder why they get sick and need antibiotics. I pasture my chickens and allow them to get as much fresh air and sunshine as they want. I’m a 7 year survivor of breast and thyroid cancer, so I don’t want any arsenic in my diet.

  • Lillian Zeinski

States are waiting for Federal LEADERSHIP. Do the right thing now and ban arsenic in chicken feed

  • Christina Fermin

We don’t want this in the animal feed, because WE don’t want to end up eating this.

  • Nice. Thanks for writing this. It is always awesome to see someone give back to the world.

  • Lynne Parker

What is the point of an FDA if they allow toxins in our food yet raid a raw milk store in California? This whole government is screwed up.
